Driver CPC for lorry, bus and coach drivers
The Certificate of Professional Competence is a relatively new qualification designed to ensure that anyone driving a heavy-duty vehicles possesses the appropriate skill set to remain safe, diligent and, as a result, less likely to be involved in a road traffic accident.
What does this mean for you?
Along with your vocational license, category D for example, you also need to hold the CPC qualification in order to drive legally and unfortunately employers are unable to employ or sub-contract to anyone without it.
Depending on when you gained your license, you may not need to hold a CPC qualification initially although this will eventually become mandatory as drivers will be expected to renew their CPC qualification every 5 years.
Our advice is that any opportunity to boost your skill or improve your driving skills is worth taking advantage and, when the majority of careers as a professional driver will require this, then we recommend being ahead of the curve!
The good news is that we make it easy and we’ll even remind you when your CPC renewal is due, so that you can stay compliant and continue working, and make all the arrangements so that you can focus on doing the job at hand.
Some vehicles are exempt from the CPC directive but if you have any doubts, we recommend giving us a quick call and getting some advice from those in the know!
